The consortium SCK·CEN/Merience is currently undertaking a study to assess good practices in implementing the requirements on public information and transparency in the event of an emergency, under the Euratom Basic Safety Standards Directive and Nuclear Safety Directive. These two directives provide opportunities to the European Member States to review existing procedures and improve implementation measures in the area of communication and transparency in the event of an emergency. The study started in June 2017 and will finish in September 2018. It is funded by European Commission Directorate General Energy.
The main aim is to provide recommendations on how to improve public information and transparency in the case of radiological emergency. The final workshop will take place in Antwerp (Belgium) on 11-12 June 2018, as a pre-conference workshop of the RICOMET conference.
